Bengaluru is one of the favourite cities for many and a preferred chocie when planning a holiday too. If you are a Bengaluru parent, you must check out this list of the best kid-friendly weekend getaways from Bengaluru that give you an ideal holiday experience to rejuvenate yourself. 

But what if you don't have the time to plan 2-3 days outside the city? Don't worry. All you need is a day to enjoy some fun, quality time with the kids. Here is a list of some of the best options to head to for a fun one-day family picnic in Bengaluru.

1.Bannerghatta National Park: A place where kids can get a great wildlife experience

This is one of my son's favourite place to head to, located just one hour from the city of Bengaluru. To witness a bear sleeping in his own true style, to watch snakes strike a pose and to watch pandas and peacock dance to their tunes- is a sight to behold. They also have a park inside the premises where the kids can play.  In addition to witnessing beautiful animals via the safari, the park also facilitates boating activities that kids will love.

Mommy tip: Since you’re travelling with kids, chances are you may get exhausted by the end of the day. Don't worry- there are enough restaurant and lodges to give you and the kids the right break.   In addition to witnessing beautiful animals via safari, the park also facilitates boating activities to relax.

2. Innovative Film City: A place where the kids can learn, explore and enjoy

This entertaining hub has a lot of kid-friendly activities where you get to see amazing attractions and museums, venture on adventure sports and explore the studios. Kids will love the Cartoon City where you'll be surrounded by old and new toon friends and lot other fun stuff to do. The other must-visit places include Aqua Kingdom, where you can soak in the waters in the hot summers and enjoy water sports like wave pool, lazy rivers and slides; Dino Park to relive the Jurassic Park days and the Haunted Mansion where skeletons, zombies and everything scary will come to life.

Mommy tip: The other fun things to do include go karting, bungy jumping, bull ride, etc. Don't miss the Wax Museum, Tribal Museum and the Bigg Boss House studio! t

3. Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary or Pakshi Kashi: A home to migratory birds and a place where boat rides never seemed more adventurous

One of the best bird sanctuaries in India, Ranganathittu offers a safe home to some of the exotic birds.  You will find a range of trees such as bamboo, eucalyptus , karanji, jamun etc that makes the place breathtakingly beautiful. This sanctuary is also home to mammals and reptiles like common mongoose, flying fox, bonnet macaque, palm civet and marsh crocodile.

Mommy tip: Don't miss the boat rides here! They are amazing. Also don't forget to pack in your binoculars for the boatride. The kids will love it! 

Timings: 9:00 am to 6: 00 pm

Boating: Rs 60 per person for 20 people

4. Railway Museum Mysore- A Vintage Treasure:

The Museum preserves a good collection of ancient steam locomotives and carriages. It also displays some rare collection of royal carriages of the Woodyear Kings. The most interesting thing is the Queen’s saloon carriage which is displayed indoors, which had a kitchen, dining area, servant’s resting room and toilets. The museum also displays the pictures of how train and railway system has evolved through the years. Another attraction was the vintage Austin Railway Car.

Mommy tip: The toy train ride doesn't function any more. But this place is favourite if you are planning a fun photoshoot for your family portrait!

Entry: Free for kids, 15 Rs for adults

5. Channapatna: A place to learn the ancient method of toy making

Did you know India had it's own toy town? Say hello to Channapatna. Wood and vegetable dyes used to give toys a new life and the toy bazaar to see the artisans' display on sale, is a sight to behold. We guarantee you won't return empty handed from here! 

Mommy tip: Not just toys- you will find wonderful handcrafted home decor here too! It's also famous for it's wine tasting!

6.Lal bag – Necklace of Bangalore City and best day-trip options:

One of the favourite spots for any parent to head to with their kids, in the city, this garden can be visited any time during the year and children can enjoy the open space and learn about different plants, trees and flowers. There are various activities planned at this garden for kids. Did we say the place gives you cool Insta-worthy DP pics?!

7.Martin Farm:  A day with pet animals

A 2-acre sized farm, located little off the Sarjapur Road in Bengaluru, this is one of the famous places in the city where you can head to for a fun picnic with the kids. A popular destination for children's birthday parties, your kids can play with farm animals such as donkeys, goats, cows, ducks, ponies, lamb etc.

Mommy tip: You will have to pack lunch for you an the kids, when you head to Martin farm.

8. Cubbon park: Heart of the city

One of the favourite choice among parents to spend time within the city- the Cubbon park, is a great option if you are looking for a family picnic spot. The highlights are the serene surroundings worthy for photoshoot, greenery and ofcourse, the toy train for kids! The mini train goes around the park twice, taking you through the dense tree and parks.

Mommy tip: Make sure you pack enough foods and water for your little ones. Also don't forget the mosquito repellants when you are planning quality time outdoors. 

9. Wonder La Amusement Waterpark:

One of the largest amusement parks in the country,, this is the place you zero in on a weekend when you are looking for some de-stressing! Just let go and have fun at the crazy and the adventurous rides here. You can take as many pictures as you can with them on the Fun Racer ride so that later you can relive the great times you've had together.

10. Prani -the pet sanctuary

It is situated about 37 km South of MG road, off the famous Art of Living Ashram on Kanakapura Road. It’s a 2-acre farm filled with pets rescued from differed parts of the country. Prani the pet sanctuary, aims to bring youngsters closer to pet animals and nurture respect and appreciation towards other living beings. It’s a wonderful place where they offer a chance to touch and feel the pet animals with care, which is not quite possible in a zoo.
