There are various myths and facts about bath time across the word. India has it’s own share of beliefs, myths and traditions that need to be followed during bath time. We have the traditional massage ladies who give bath to our babies n the first few months when a new mother is not so confident of doing it all by herself. As our kids grow up bath time turns from bonding time to a chore. My girls are now 6 and 2 and that bonding during bath time is just so precious. It’s not only fun as a mother and child bonding but also between siblings. The craziest of stories come up during bath time. Their imagination just goes wild and that is what make sit so special. The shower becomes into rain and soaps into cars and monsters zooming around. While the morning bath is often rushed due to school and hectic schedules the evening bath is a perfect ingredient for a good night sleep. Splish, splash and splatter….
Here are some facts about bath time you probably didn’t know:
1. Â The average amount parents spend on bath time for babies is 23 minutes a day i.e almost 10 hours in month. It is the place where every touch and smell contributes to your baby’s development.
2. Â Playing music and singing songs can help stimulate parts of the brain responsible for memory or talking to the baby also helps with language development. It’s a great way to build their vocabulary.
3. Â When the baby is still in the womb,the sense of touch begins as she gently rubs her belly. Research has also shown that skin to skin contact for about 25 to 120 minutes positively affects the interaction between mother and child.
4. A massage or routine of touch leads to improved physiological,cognitive,emotional or social development.
5. Pleasant smell and loving interactions create lasting memories. for example, smell of a lotion or bath product combined with gentle caress of a mom creates lasting memories.
6. Â Parents in India don’t understand the benefits of bath time however they do treat it as bonding time with their kinds.
7. 76% of parents in India recognise the importance of bath time and as many parents as 48% believe that touch or massage is extremely important part of bath time.
8. Phone Free Zone: In India, bath time with kids has now become a phone free zone. Research says that 45% parents never use their phone during bath time. Thank god for that.
9. Splashing & Bubbles are important during a child’s bath time as they help them learn. However in India 67% believe it isn’t important.
10. Talking and eye contact during bath  time helps in a child’s development.
