When it comes to shopping for my child, I am rarely swayed by big names or brands. For me what comes first is comfort. And to cater to that one demand, I find myself constantly reaching for comfortable cotton clothing. Designs and patterns are essential, but nothing beats the comfort factor. I remember when my daughter was born, I used my mom’s old cotton sarees as wraps to make sure my baby was comfortable at all times. Is there anything more comforting and soft than mom’s sarees? That’s exactly what famous stylist Jayati Bose asked herself before she launched Chotto Golpo.

About Chotto Golpo:

Chotto Golpo is a 100% handwoven sustainable clothing line for kids, invoking the magical musings of childhood and nature. Every garment is lovingly constructed with the finest 100% handwoven cotton and is sewn for durability, comfort and are all easily washable.

The idea behind Chotto Golpo:

Celebrity stylist to Bollywood stars for several years now, Jayati Bose- the brain behind Chotto Golpo,  looks for inspiration and stories in fabrics and silhouettes. Four years ago when she was on the lookout for soft, breathable cotton wear for her daughter in classic village silhouettes, she wasn’t completely satisfied with what was available in the children’s market in the country. She ended up shopping in villages in Europe that matched her specifications. That’s when inspiration struck! She decided to launch her own clothing line for children that made the best use of the comfort and designs of her mother and grandmother’s cotton sarees. Chotto Golpo in Bengali means ‘tiny tales’. Jayati Bose succeeded in getting traditional artisans from Bengal to weave little stories through their collections.

What we love:

  • The soft and breathable cotton feel to the fabric is unmatched. It sure gives a world of comfort to our kids.
  • The attention to minute details like the tailoring and finishing touches is something that won us over. The simple handwoven weaves or the typical Bengali Jamdani weaves add an extra zing to the clothes, making them special for kids.
  • Chotto Golpo works on 100% natural fibres or the ones that have been revived, recycled and handwoven from scraps of waste cotton fabrics.
  • Chotto Golpo takes inspiration from nature and is doing their bit to raise eco-conscious kids. They will gift a plant seed along with each purchase, so that your little one can experience the joy of nurturing life and watching it grow.

What we would like to see:

  • At present, they do not have an online store. Orders can be placed from their collections in their website and once the specifications are mailed, it takes them 10-12 days to deliver within India. But in this growing e-retail world, we would like to see the online store with a broader collection that helps parents choose the best for their kids. But for the love of art, feel of the fabric and things not mass produced we can wait.
  • At present they cater to 2- 6 years. We can’t wait for our older kids to wear such lovely, breathable cotton.
