Regular readers of Kidsstoppress will know and remember reading about Aiyana’s struggles with eczema and how Anandita her mom chronicled their family’s story. If you haven’t read it yet, you can catch up on the two part story here and here.
When we first heard about Aiyana, she was nine years old and had already been suffering from acute chronic eczema all her life. Her mother, Anandita wrote about the family’s struggles to make sense of Eczema and the powerful medicines doctor after doctor was prescribing for Aiyana. She even wrote about how it took strong doses of steroids to keep Aiyana’s eczema under control.
Now Anindita wants her daughter’s story to reach more parents and has co-authored a book with Aiyana’s dermatologist, Dr Amrita Talwar. The book titled I have eczema…so what?, is meant for children and covers all aspects of eczema that a child faces. It will not only cover what the condition is, but will detail everything a child needs to know to manage it – from proper skincare to a bathing routine, how it affects school life and interaction with society in general, the right food to eat, etc. Basically the book teaches a child how to accept eczema as a part of life and cope with it rather than retreating into a shell.
Anindita and Dr Talwar invite parents who have unanswered questions about eczema and those that would like to share their own personal stories to the book launch on April 21st, 2016, at the Crossword book store, Kemps corner, Mumbai, 6 pm onwards.
