Keeping the kids’ minds ticking and engaged can be a challenge and I love it! My DIY activities are always done so that my son has fun while learning.

Whenever I see the Indian National Flag flying high it always gives me goosebumps. I wanted to teach my little one about our flag and our official language, Hindi. This Tiranga activity using kitchen ingredients seemed perfect. This is what I did to celebrate Independence Day with him.

On a piece of paper, I wrote Hindi vowels and stuck them on the base of the bin. I covered it with

  • Masoor dal (Orange)
  • Rice (white)
  • Green gram (green)
  • Used chart paper for Chakra

I gave him a brush to search for the letters and on another piece of paper he had to mark as and when he found each Hindi vowel  He counted & cross-checked if mama had added the right number of lines on the charka. He loved using the brush to find the letters & he carefully looked for them and kept the flag intact. It is a simple activity that looked spectacular set up and he had so much fun doing it.

Also, none of the ingredients in the bin are coloured. They are all-natural and can be found in our kitchens. So I can put them back in the kitchen dabba once he’s done and not waste them.

Note: Hindi is one of the official languages of India and since he’s started learning that recently I decided to make an activity around it.
