We sure do agree on this one- our way kids are way more smarter than our generation. They are clear about their needs and priorities and sure, know how to get what they want! A recent survey titled “Turner’s New Generationsâ„¢ 2016: Power To The Kids” shares an exclusive report with Kidsstoppress on what defines your child’s TV viewing habits and what today’s kids really want to watch in their free time.

Turner has commissioned Nielsen to conduct the survey for their flagship research study that throws light on the TV viewing patterns, usage of internet, food habits, lifestyle habits, how well they spend their pocket money and lots more. The research was conducted on about 6000 children over the age groups 4-6 years and 7-14 years. Here is what the extensive research has to say about your kids’ TV viewing habits.

Who are the Plurals?

We are familiar with the terms Gen X and Millenials. But did you know who the “plurals” are?

The kids born between 1997- 2015+ are defined as plurals.

In essence- the boss of your house and mine who dictate the TV and meal times come under this category.

What makes the kids of this generation stand out?

  • With greater access to internet and television, the younger lot sure knows and cares a lot more about what’s happening across the globe than we did.
  • The current generation is standing firm on breaking the gender divide and the gender stereotyping.
  • Also, the current generation is adept at handling their real lives and virtual lives together with ease- thanks to the burst of social networking sites.
  • Career choices are new and stand out from the usual. The in-depth knowledge and confidence gives them the wings to think big and build their skills accordingly.

Television Continues To Rule:

The answer is unanimous: Kids aged 7-14 love watching television, it is the most favoured activity for 97% of kids, and reading newspapers and books (49% and 44%) take the distant second and third spot.

And what do kids like watching on TV? Cartoons are the ultimate favourite from kids aged 7 to 14 years.

Also, did you know, who your child’s favourite cartoon character was? No surprises, there. The heartthrob of Dholakpur- Chhota Bheem remains the uncrowned monarch in the kid’s entertainment industry with 22% among 3728 respondents voting in favour against 20% for Doraemon and 14% for Motu and Patlu.

Parents & Kids- Combined TV Viewing:

Most TV interests of parents and children (aged 4-14 years) regarding children’s entertainment seemed to concur. Both agreed that Cartoon Network was the most preferred channel. The kids prefer Nick and Pogo TV next to Cartoon Network while the parents prefer Pogo TV and Hungama as second and third after Cartoon Network.

Also one in every 2 parent-couples agreed on viewing the cartoons along with their children on every day of the week. This way, the parents also get to know what their child likes and can be assured they view the right things.
