This is for all the parents, grandparents, teachers and authority figures. How many times as a parent have you fantasised your daughter to be with that smart chap who knows it all? Let’s face it. Many times. This statement by Mark Zuckerberg will make you rethink this dream.  Mark Zuckerberg has a voiced his opinion and we all must rethink our ideologies and stop stereotyping our own daughters. We are in a day and age where we constantly speak about empowerment, encouragement, aspiration for young girls. We are constantly finding ways to get them to stand up on their own two feet. But at the same time we forget that sometimes the statements we make may pull them back down.
A while back a feminist fan wrote to him saying that she was encouraging her granddaughters to “date the nerd in school, he may turn out to be a Mark Zuckerberg!â€_x009d_
Zuckerberg replied with the following: “Even better would be to encourage them to *be* the nerd in their school so they can be the next successful inventor!â€_x009d_
He couldn’t have said it correct. Why do we always inspire our daughters to depend on their better half when they too have a mind of their own to be the next Zuckerberg?
Instead of encouraging our daughters to “date the nerdâ€_x009d_ we should motivate them “to be the nerdâ€_x009d_. We need to stop discouraging our daughter’s capabilities and make them more independent.
