Diwali is the time of the year when you feel almost obliged to be cleaning up your home even if it is super clean already. But if you are one of those mommies who is pressed for time, is running on a packed schedule and would like to do your little bit to de-clutter your home before the festivities begin, here are some quick areas you can do without stressing yourself out.
Clearing up these five areas of your home will make you adequately ready for the festive season:
1. Kitchen:

Just a few quick tasks to do here. Go through all the perishable items, and non-perishable products, check the spice rack, canned food, and snack shelf – check for expiry products, and food items that you have not consumed for a while or would not be needing. Also, go through all your big kitchen gadgets and remove ones that are not functional or not being used adequately. At this point also make a small list of items you intend to cook or serve during the festive season and parallelly make your shopping list.
2. Clothes:

One look at your shelf and I am sure all those clothes you have not been wearing, don’t fit into, intend to wear but never got around to will be easy to identify. If you find all that overwhelming to let go, just go through your festive clothes. Put aside everything that looks exciting and you would wear this season. Go over the remaining clothes and keep only those that you see yourself wearing again, which fit you and are in good condition. This will have you all ready for your social engagements.
3. Gifft Rack:
All of us, sorry at least most of us, have that secret gift recycling cupboard where we store all the gifts we receive or even buy. It is time to take a hard look at that pile, you might be surprised at what you’ve hidden away there. Go through and check on what gifts you have, throw away expired food and beauty items, dust off decorative pieces, and check the condition of the kids’ gift items. Decide on what needs to be thrown away or recycled, and what is really worth keeping if you have not used it or gifted it in the last few months it’s highly unlikely that you will find an occasion soon to use it.
4. Books:
Perhaps one of the toughest to de-clutter, at least for me. Keep the ones you have loved reading and would want to go over again. The ones you have enjoyed but don’t see yourself reading again can either be shared with your loved ones and friends or donated to a local library.
Then comes the pile you have been intending to read but not gotten around to, here we have a whole bunch of justifications for why we have not which varies from lack of time, did not find it, have been reading something better! Ask yourself if would you buy it again if you had to pay money once more for it and the answer will clearly tell you which pile they need to go to.
5. Decorations:
As you prep, your home for the festive season go through what you have that you are going to use again. Lights that are not working, broken decorations, the once missing parts etc can be trashed or recycled. Also, shop for newer ones only after editing the current stock you have at home.
Let go of everything that is making this joyous time stressful be it things, items on your to-do list or social engagements. Simplify and enjoy this festive season with your loved ones.
